LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar while expressing annoyance over non appearance of Attorney General (AG) Ashtar Ausaf in the court during hearing of Asghar Khan case has remarked government has run away after setting up a sub committee.
A two members bench of Supreme Court (SC) presided over by CJP Mian Saqib Nisar took up for hearing implementation of decision in Asghar Khan case here Friday.
AG did not appear in the court during the hearing of the case and deputy AG was present in the court in his place.
At the inception of the hearing of the case CJP inquired what decision was taken in cabinet meeting held a day before.
Deputy AG replied cabinet has taken positive decision and AG will appear before the court and inform it about this decision.
Expressing annoyance over non appearance of AG Ashtar Ausaf in the court CJP remarked “ such an important case is running in the court and but AG is not caring for it. This is his performance.
CJP further remarked federal cabinet has taken no decision in implementation of decision in Asghar Khan case. This case is lying since several years. Is it this job of cabinet.
He further observed government ran away after forming a sub committee.
The court while summoning AG Ashtar Ausaf today on June 02 adjourned the hearing of the case.
The cabinet in its last meeting on May 31 avoided to give any final order or directive in Asghar Khan case maintaining that judiciary, prosecution and investigation are free in initiating their proceedings and the respective institutions should work as per law.
Former Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi who presided over cabinet meeting said cabinet has nothing to do with this matter nor can he talk of leaving this matter to the next government.
