AIOU holds seminar on intellectual property rights

Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) held a national seminar here at its main campus to promote awareness among the people about the intellectual property rights.
The seminar was also aimed at keep its academia and students well-informed about the property rights and its impact on the society.
The AIOU being the mega educational institution in the public sector fulfills its national duty to create awareness about the society’s related issues and responsibilities of the people to this effect, said the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while presiding over the seminar.
The seminar was arranged by the University’s Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC).
A senior official of Oxford Printing Press Malik Bilal Haider was the resource person who gave detailed presentation on the issue. He apprised the participants about the relevant laws that govern the intellectual property rights.
Pakistan is a member of the WTO and signatory to the Trade – Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) Agreement. Therefore it is imperative for an individual and the nation as a whole to follow the agreement in a letter and spirit, the VC added.
