ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decision for nullifying the intra party election of MQM Pakistan PIB group.
ECP had given decision that Farooq Sattar could no longer serve as the convener of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).
Dr Farooq Sattar had filed two petitions in IHC. In one petition he had challenged the jurisdiction of ECP and in the second petition he had prayed the court to set aside EC P March 26 decision.
Babar Sattar counsel for Farooq Sattar argued that ECP was not authorized to nullify intra party election of any political party because ECP can not interfere in the internal matters of any party.
He took the plea that MQM-P was registered in the name of Dr Farooq Sattar with ECP and Dr Farooq Sattar was registered as convener of this party. However if any wrong thing comes in the internal affairs of the party then no power rests with ECP to interfere in it.
IHC while announcing the verdict issued notices to ECP and MQM Bahadar Abad group convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiquie and other respondents.
