AIOU holds sitting with renowned journalist Saud Sehr

Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) here on Monday held a special sitting with a renowned journalist, Syed Saud Sehr to provide an opportunity to its students and the Faculty members to get themselves well aware about the role of journalist community in projecting the national cause.

The event (Mulaqat) was part of the series of activities, being arranged by the University on regular basis to highlight the achievements of national celebrities in their respective field.

While introducing Saud Sehr, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said he was an institution in his own person, who served the profession with commitment and dedication. Saud was among the pioneers of investigating reporting, he added.

Deliberating upon various dimensions of his personality, the Vc s went on to add, Saud Sehr spent more than half century in the profession and was an eye-witness of the various historical developments in the national politics.

Saud Sehr on the occasion shared his journalistic experience with the participants and the narrated the hard task, he went through while reporting some landmark events.

He asserted that the journalists should always keep high national interest, while performing their professional duties. A journalist is supposed to be well-versed with literature, history and geographia, as well as having craze of books’ reading in order to do justice with his work. He thanked the AIOU and the Vice Chancellor for proving him an opportunity to interact with the students and answer their searching questions.

Those who also praised the professional caliber of Saud Sehr included media persons Mian Munir Ahmed and Asim Raja, besides chairman department of Mass Communication Dr. Saqib Riaz and chairman department of Urdu Dr. Abdul Aziz Sehr.

Earlier, Dr. Shahid Sididiqui also spoke about role of the Universities in initiating debate on the national issues. The AIOU, he said was fulfilling his basic role of constructing and creating knowledge, through publication of research journals and holding national and international conferences.

The AIOU has been developed as a Centre of social, literacy and cultural activities focusing more on creative and knowledge-based academic pursuits in order to motivate its students towards positive and healthy way of life.

The function was arranged by the Department of Mass Communication.
