Lahore: The Supreme Court Chief Justice, Mian Saqib Nisar, on Saturday informed senior lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan that the fine imposed on him by the apex court for failing to appear in formula milk case has been paid by the CJP’s son as ‘sadqah’.
During the hearing of suo motu case pertaining to formula milk at the Supreme Court registry in Lahore on Saturday, the chief justice remarked that since Ahsan was reluctant to pay fine worth Rs10,000, the chief justice’s son had donated it as ‘sadqah’. The two-member bench heard the case here on Saturday. The private company counsel presented sample of the milk in the court.
“My son said, I will pay uncle’s fine,” Mian Saqib Nisar told Ahsan, adding the paid receipt will be handed over to you.
In the last hearing, Ahsan had adopted harsh tone pertaining to imposition of Rs10,000 fine against him for just one absence from the court. During his absence, Ahsan was represented by his assistant, who had demanded that the court adjourn the case hearing for long time.
Ahsan did not pay the fine and appeared in the court for proceeding on Saturday. The senior lawyer said chief justice sahib you seem in tension, upon which, the CJP responded negative and asked who told you.
During the hearing, Ahsan informed the court that the company had mentioned on the product, “The milk is only for over six months kids whereas mother’s milk is best supplement for children”.
The private company lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said under the order of the court the company had written on the packet that the milk is only for more than six months children whereas mother’s milk is best supplement.
However, the CJP ordered that there should be clearly mention on the packets that, “It is not milk,” otherwise the company will not be permitted to market its product. Ahsan described the court that the company had mentioned the said sentences under the light of the court order.
