Islamabad: The entire committee of National Assembly on Communication staged walkout against absence of Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) Jawad Rafiq Malik from the committee’s meeting.
The meeting of the committee was held with its convener MNA Muzamil Qureshi on the chair on Tuesday. He said in the beginning of the meeting, “We are here after leaving our constituencies, but when ask for any development work , it is not initiated so we cannot hold meeting in this kind of atmosphere”,
The Chairman asked Secretary Communications about the absence of Chairman NHA, he replied that he is due. But Chairman of the committee insisted to call him. When Secretary called Chairman NHA, he replied that he is in Prime Minister’s Secretariat in a meeting. On which the committee members said that if Chairman NHA would not come they will not sit in the meeting. After 10 minutes, the participants left the meeting hall as a token of protest.
The member of the committee Nasima Hafeez Panizai said that the committee called Chairman NHA again and again, but he did not attend six or seven meetings, which is breach of privilege of the parliamentarians
The committee asked NHA that the compensation money was not paid yet either to the affected people of Kiyal Bridge at Karakorum Highway or Keh Syed Khan Shudad Kot Road. The payment should be made at once.
The committee also sought reply from NHA that a Deputy Director of National Highway Authority in connivance with the police received Rs 0.3 million from a petrol pump owned by a former parliamentarian at Laki Marwat.
