KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has remarked Karachi should be a clean Karachi within a week.
Interim report of Water Commission (WC) came up for hearing before a 3-member bench of SC Karachi registry presided over by CJP Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday.
CJP while addressing chief secretary Sindh remarked “ WC report is an eye opener. What is going on in Sindh, its horrendous picture is coming before us. I need clean Karachi within a week.
Chief Secretary Sindh said these all are jobs and responsibilities Waseem Akhtar but we are doing it.
CJP inquired from Chief Secretary Sindh sanitation and removing the garbage is whose job.
Waseem Akhtar replied “ all the powers rest with Sindh government. City is in miserable condition. The nullahs stand choked. Garbage heaps can be seen everywhere. Stray dogs are seen roaming in large number every where. On the other hand Karachi Corporation is neither having any powers nor any fund.
CJP remarked “ this is job of DMCs ( District Municipal corporations) and DMCs are under Sindh government. It means Waseem Akhtar is saying correct. Create awareness among the people that garbage has to be thrown where.
Chief Secretary admitted that 5000 tons garbage is not being lifted from the city daily. There are such roads in Karachi where no broom has been used to sweep them since the last 6 months.
Citizen presented pictures of Bath island area of Karachi where garbage could be seen abundantly every where.
CJP remarked “when I come to Karachi I stay in Bath Island. I kept on killing mosquitoes overnight. I killed whichever mosquito, it was found full of blood. Mosquito makes no distinction between the rich and the poor. Mosquito will affect every one. We will not indulge in any dispute. All should think beyond political considerations. Everyone will have to discharge the responsibility assigned to him. Improvement can be brought in Karachi through joint efforts.
I request the citizens of Karachi to stop publicity campaign aimed at praising me. I don’t want my personal publicity campaign. I am doing my duty, he remarked.
