Islamabad : The government has decided to raise the salary of government employees in its last budget of its tenure, however the pay scales might not be revised but only allowances would be enhanced this time.
The reliable sources told that an adhoc relief by 15 percent to 20 percent of the basic pay of the employees is also under consideration, whereas considerable increase of some 20 percent to 25 percent in pension is also expected as Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has soft corner for the pensioner .
Government would raise the house rent allowance(HRA) for the government servants in the budget for the FY 2018-19, which was freeze on the pay scale of 2008. Now HRA would be increased to 45 percent for the big cities and 30 percent for the employees working in small cities and towns of the pay scale of 2017.
It is very much likely that the government may announce early budget this year due to upcoming elections and budget may be announced on 27th April.
It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister had approved the increase of 50 percent of rental ceiling and house rent allowance in last December but the government did not implement it due to the very reasons that they would announce just before the elections just to grab votes of the government employees .
The sources in Finance Ministry raise of medical and conveyance allowance by 20 per cent of the current rate is also on the cards.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on the directives of Nawaz Sharif , has issued instructions to the Ministry of Finance for the raise of pay and allowances of the government servants as the government wants to give more relief to them .
In this connection the different organizations of government servants also conveyed their proposals to the government demanding raise of pay and allowance to a appropriate level, which should be matched with the level of inflation with the country.
The civil servants also gave the proposal to give utility allowance, education allowance and revival of additional increments on attaining higher educational qualification than the post on which they are working , but due to tight budgetary position these suggestions could not come into consideration during the budget preparatory meetings
However the government may increase the entertainment allowance for the senior officers in the upcoming budget.
