Muzaffarabad (Parliament Times) A high level meeting presided over by Minister for Works and Communication Ch. Muhammad Aziz was held here late last night (Wednesday) to discuss matters relating to the problems faced by the civilian population settled across the line of control.
The meeting was attended by committee members including Minister Revenue and Rehabilitation, Sardar Farooq Sikendar Khan, senior member board of revenue Fayaz Ali Abbasi, Ch. Mukhtar Hussain, Syed Zahur-ul-Hassan Gilani, commissioner Muzaffarabad division Zafar Mehmood Khan, commissioner Poonch division Imtiaz Ahmed, additional commissioner Mirpur Ch. M Tariq and others. The committee members while reviewing the severe challenges faced by the civilian population across the LoC recommended for substantial increase in the compensation amount for the affected people.
According to details the committee members during the meeting had proposed increase in the compensation amount for martyrs, handicapped and seriously injured persons from 3 to 10 Lakh, 2.5 to 8 Lakh and 1 to 3 Lakh respectively. Whereas the committee had recommended a compensation of 40 thousand rupees each for those who have received minor injuries. More over the committee had recommended the government for providing immediate financial assistance to those who were being referred for treatment to hospitals in other districts.
The committee also directed the AJK secretary for Forests to allow the cutting of trees to the affectees so that they could rebuild their houses, which were demolished due to Indian shelling on the LoC. Besides providing other basic amenities to the people the committee had directed the relevant authorities’ for early restoration of electricity in the affected areas.
