Islamabad:(Parliament Times) Lauding the unprecedented sacrifices of people of Indian occupied Kashmir the President Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Ahmed Khan has said that the day was not far when people of the occupied territory would achieve their long cherished goal of freedom from Indian subjugation.
“India cannot keep Kashmiris in its perpetual bondage for a long time as the valiant people of the region over the years have rendered huge sacrifices to bring the issue in lime light at international level”, the AJK president said this while addressing a ceremony held in connection with the 11th anniversary of Urdu Daily, “Kashmir Times”, here on Tuesday. India he said was hell bent on to suppress Kashmiris’ ongoing struggle for right to self-determination by resorting to treacherous tactics fraught with dangerous socio-political implications on the region. Regarding the Indian plan to change the demography complexion of the region the president said that the New Delhi was propping up extremist groups in Jammu region to suppress the freedom struggle. Terming it as New Delh’s well thought out plan he said that Indian secret agencies were clandestinely aiding and abetting these groups to wipe out all traces of Muslims from the region.
Regarding the problems faced by the journalist community Khan assured the august gathering that journalist fraternity’s issues would be addressed on priority basis.
Speaking on the occasion, President PPP-AJK Chudhary Latif Akbar urged the incumbent government to pay heed to the problems faced by the journalist community. He said that despite limited sources the state-based news papers have been playing important role in promoting Kashmir cause both at national as well as international level through mass media. Lambasting the PML-N government he said that it was quite astonishing to see that PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif in his speech on Kashmir day did not even mention Indian oppression against the people of IoK and its naked aggression on the LoC. Terming it as tantamount to rubbing salt on the wounds of Kashmiris he said, “Friendship with Modi should not be given priority over Kashmir issue”.
Others who spoke on the occasion included opposition leader Ch. Muhammad Yasin, former minister Abid Hussain Abid, Javed Iqbal Badanvi, Sardar Javed Ayoub, senior journalist Raja Kafeel and PFUJ president Afazl Bhat and others.
