ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan envoy Hussain Haqqani has termed reopening of memogate case a political stunt
In a statement issued here he said four chief justices came after Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and no one among them touched it.
He held he would not come to Pakistan on the directives of “ Baba Rehmte”.
He raised the question that a 9-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) had heard Memogate 6 years before and now why a 3 members bench is there to hear it.
He questioned a review petition in connection with legal lapses in memogate was filed 6 years back. Will the court hear this petition too.
It may be mentioned that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing the case pertaining to overseas Pakistanis right to vote had summoned details of Memogate case and remarked Hussain Haqqani should return to Pakistan and face the case. Later the CJP constituted a 3-member bench of SC led by himself on February, 02 to hear memogate. The case was fixed for hearing on February 08. The court also issued notices to 24 petitioners in memogate case.
