FAISALABAD: Engineer Faqir Muhammad Chaudhary MD WASA Faisalabad has said that WASA Faisalabad will launch certain projects in collaboration of overseas support whereby clean and safe drinking water would be available to the citizens continuously for 24 hours.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Parliament Times here on Wednesday
MD WASA said, “This continuous supply of clean drinking water would save the public from any contamination as compared to intermittent water supply”. He said that work has already been initiated ind different areas of Faisalabad in this regard. “WASA will soon flourish as self-sustained organization and a role model”, the MD said adding that people of Faisalabad will have to cooperate honesty and pay the utility bills regularly.
“Since the ground water in the most industrialized city is not safe
for drinking and WASA is going to supply sweet drinkable water in place of salty
water”, he said adding that a number of tube Wells have been installed in the peripheries
of River Chenab and Jhang branch along a 40 KM stretch of Faisalabad.
He said that there was a dire need of 160 MGD water supply daily
for 3.2 million people, whereas the production is 110 MGD including French
phrase 1 project supply 15 MGD. “There
is further need of 50 MGD more drinkable water for the citizens of Faisalabad”, the MD WASA said. He pointed out that
ACENIC PC- 1 project costing 14 crore rupees has been approved in which 11
billion and 3 billion rupees will be respectively provided by the French and Punjab Governments respectively. “The project will help to meet the requirements of nearly 6 lakh population settled at Eastern side of Faisalabad in addition to already running system of WASA Faisalabad.
“Last approval of French board will be held in March 2018 for
which the needed request has been sent in this regard to high officials”, he said adding that the Note Agreement will get signed in this financial year (July/August 2018).
Engineer Faqir Muhammad Chaudhary elaborated that, WASA was
determined to save the ground water too.
He said that 30 MGD Clean drinking water will be availed from Gogera Branch
near Jarranwala 40 KM away from Faisalabad. “WASA Faisalabad is approaching now for surface water not the ground
water in which there may be or may be not Arsenic metal which causes Cancer”,
he maintained.
“WASA will contain surface water by
irrigation department on conditional bases and provide waste water after
purification that will be useable for irrigation”, the MD said. He pointed out that waste water feasibly with the cost of 10 Crore will be completed in June 2018 and an agreement has been signed in this regard.
Another water treatment plant he said was being installed at the
cost of 100 million Euro (12 Arb) at Maduana area of 150 MGD capacity and this waste water will run in the direction of Lower Gogera Canal.
Appreciating Jaika protects and mega support of Japan for WASA
Faisalabad, MD pointed out that Jaika is preparing the master plan for
next 20 years with the cost of 40 Crore on priority base within 4 /5 years in which Jaika will grant 5.8 billion.
“We are making our all out efforts to improve the supply and
sewerage system to fulfill the needs and necessities of the public as per their expectations”, he said saying that
the WASA faced deficit and there was a
huge disparity in its income and expenditures.
He further said that, WASA is paid back by various sectors with
the ratio of 95% by industrial, 60% commercial and 25% by domestic. “So domestic and commercial sectors will have to
pay back bills in time with due responsibility and honesty”, he concluded.
