Islamabad: Muttahida Opposition in the National Assembly Friday termed the Punjab government as incompetent for its failure to curb incidents of molestation with minors in the province.
Taking part in discussion over Kasur incident, they demanded that action must be taken against Chief Minister Punjab over Punjab police firing at the infuriated protestors. They highlighted that it was the 12th incident of its kind in Kasur but Punjab government had failed to arrest culprits so far. MPs said Punjab police has become emblem of fear and terrorism in the province, adding if timely steps were not taken the parents would consider their children as insecure.
Opposition leader Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah taking part in the debate lamented that laws are approved in the Parliament but not implemented. He said it was responsibility of the government to ensure safety of life and property but has failed to protect. Talking about Kasur incident, he said it was not incident occurred in Kasur but such kinds of incidents are repeatedly happening in every city and village.
Khurshid Shah said that government has taken any step so far, which ensures protection of the people. He added Kasur like issue must not be restricted till resolutions, promises and speeches, adding punishment was not enough but measures were required, in this regard. He added Kasur incident has affected the entire country and now parents are worried about their daughters. He reiterated that the government has done nothing during the last five years for protection of people, especially minor child.
He feared the steps were not taken Parliament will lose trust of the people and in case people failed to get the justice they (people) would start doing justice themselves. He said although Kasur like incidents take place across the globe but inquiries of these incidents are held, action is taken and accused are sent behind the bars.
State Minister Shah Nawaz Ranjha justifying the Kasur incident said that such kind of incidents were also happening in Larkana and Dera Ismail Khan. Who has punished the accused yet? he posed a question. “We must do some soul searching too”, he added. He further said how many MPs have followed such cases in their respective constituencies or got information about the FIR. He demanded of hanging publicly to culprits involved in such incidents. He sought cooperation of all stakeholders to curb Kasur like incidents.
Shireen Mazari of PTI said that imprisonment in such crimes was a joke with the nation and children. He demanded to probe killing of two protestors killed by the police. He added after Kasur incident the government must admit that it has been failed totally. He said it was 12th incident of its kind in Kasur while five DNA samples have been matched. He added this proves continuity of the killings in the area. Despite this reality, the issue is being camouflaged as the political issues. He recalled that in 2015 over 200 children were sexually assaulted and their porn videos were made.
He said minister at the then had said that it was land dispute and was not molestation of children and the accused were not punished. He said those police officers who opened fired on protestors in Model town were elevated to higher ranks, adding same thing has been repeated in Kasur. He said it was regrettable that parents of Zainab have no trust in police so they were appealing to Army Chief and Chief Justice for justice. He said that resolutions of the Parliament would make no impact as number of resolutions were adopted and now lying in the dust bin.
Naeema Kishwar said that such incidents also occur in U.S and Europe but such incidents would not be tolerated in Pakistan as it is Islamic Republic. She recalled that over 600 children were burnt in Lahore, female child were also burnt alive in Abbottabad. She said punishments have been determined in holy Quran, adding these culprits must be stoned to death. She said if punishments are awarded in line with the Quranic teachings then such kind of incidents will not happen.
Kishwar Zehra said that Kasur like incidents jolt the entire society. She said it was failure of the government that twelve incidents occurred only a city Kasur. She added the government was so weak that it was targeting the protestors but failed to arrest the accused.
Sahibzada Tariqullah regretted that despite occurrence of twelve incidents in Kasur even not a single culprit was arrest, which was failure of the Punjab government. He added “Mujrim-e-Aala” was responsible for all incidents. He said Chief Minister Punjab used to visit people’s homes in the darkness as he was scared to face masses. He demanded of the Parliament to enact the legislation so that no one can dare to repeat this heinous crime in future.
