Disqualification petition: EC seeks reply from Karachi’s Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra

Islamabad: The County’s top electoral body sought reply from Karachi’s Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra to a petition seeking his disqualification filed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P).

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (Retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza, took up the petition for hearing Wednesday
During the hearing, CEC asked MQM-P chief Dr. Farooq Sattar where is the copy of Show cause notice along with the disqualification’s petition. Farooq Sattar replied that under Sindh local government act there is no need of show cause notice.
MQM chief said that Arshad Vohra was elected Union Council (UC) chairman on the ticket of MQM adding that before one and half month he (Arshad Vohra) switched his loyalty.
ECP after the preliminary hearing sought rejoinder from Arshad Vohra and adjourned the hearing till 26 December.
MQM-P chief Dr. Farooq Sattar talking to newsmen outside the ECP after hearing of petition said that “we filed petition under the article 63-1-A and Election Act 2017 and prayed the EC to revoke the membership of Arshad Vohra.
He said that Arshad Vohra himself announced in the press conference to join Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) adding MQM-P also filed another petition against him (Arshad Vohra) under the Sindh government Act 36-A-K.
