New Delhi : In occupied Kashmir, a team of Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP) beat up at least 18 detainees lodged in high security wards ‘C’ and ‘F’ of Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail on the night of November 21.
The inmates sustained severe injuries and the Delhi High Court on Monday directed the jail authorities to take the victims for special check-up at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in the next 48 hours.
Many of the injured prisoners were Kashmiris including Syed Shahid Yousuf, son of prominent freedom leader Syed Salahuddin. The Counsel for Shahid Yousuf produced a blood-stained shirt of Shahid before Patiala Court saying that his client was ruthlessly beaten up by Tamil Nadu Special Police guarding the Jail Cells of Tihar.
The family members of Shahid Yousuf told media that Shahid was not only abused but mercilessly thrashed by Tamil Nadu Special Police inside Tihar Jail. “The Counsel for Shahid was shocked to see his condition when he visited him in Tihar Jail. He informed us that Shahid was beaten to pulp without any reason along with other inmates. Shahid has suffered injuries in his head and shoulder. There are visible injury marks on his body,” the family members said.
They maintained that there is a threat to Shahid Yousuf’s life in Tihar Jail. “He should be shifted to Srinagar Central Jail because he is targeted for being Kashmiri,” they said. “We were allowed a five minutes meeting with him when he was brought to court on Monday. He looks frail and traumatized,” they added.
Meanwhile, New Delhi’s Patiala Court extended judicial custody of Shahid Yousuf till December 22. He was arrested by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) after summoning him to its headquarters in Delhi on October 24 this year in connection with a false case registered against him. He is currently lodged in prison number one of Tihar Jail.
