ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has summoned details of all the persons detained in detention centres across the country.
A 2-member bench of SC presided over by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and comprising Justice Ijazul Ahsan took up for hearing missing persons case Thursday.
During the course of hearing of the case Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked “ who have been arrested. What are the allegations against them. A detailed report is needed in this regard. Why these persons have been kept under detention without registration of cases against them.
Justice Ejaz Afzal inquired why the persons detained in detention centres are not being put to trial. If some one has committed crime then he should be awarded punishment after his trial.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan remarked “ give us explanation why the people have been kept in jails since several years without cases.
Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked “ the apex court has no reply to give to family members of missing persons and no satisfactory reply is being given to the apex court on this count. The people are making rounds of the courts since several years in quest of their near and dear ones.
The court ordered that meeting of the persons detained in detention centres be arranged with their family members within a week.
Amna Masood, leader of human rights organization said “ people are being lifted forcibly at present too. The matter had begum from 137 persons and now the strength has surpassed 4000.
The court has adjourned the hearing of the case till November 13.
