Role of media imperative for mass scale awareness about polio eradication


Rawalpindi: (Parliament Times) The role of media is imperative for mass scale awareness about polio eradication which is in its final stage at the moment in Pakistan and only 5 polio cases had been still reported in Pakistan. The year 2018 will be the polio free with the dedicated efforts of all stakeholders. This was revealed by the Director Health Services and Coordinator Emergency Center Dr. Muneer Ahmed during deliberations about the factual position of polio cases in Pakistan and efforts for polio elevation. The media briefing was attended by the senior journalists from print and electronic media. It was apprised that 33 polio workers were targeted during polio eradication campaigns while 175 works were wounded in attacks during the campaigns. Dr. Muneer informed that high risk union councils with regard to polio prevalence had been categories into different groups and according to the intensity of polio virus polio campaigns were being conducted. He said that it is alarming that polio simples were being resulted positive in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad along with other districts of Province and it is need of hour that stringent measures should be adopted to educate the masses especially parents to administer polio drops to their under-five year kids during anti polio campaigns. Dr. Muneer Chaudhry also informed that frequent transition between Pakistan and Afghanistan is one of the major reasons of polio cases and it is necessary that people should be educated to take care and avail the facilities of polio prevention. Dr. Ujala also briefed about the polio control measures and shared the data of polio cases and remedial measures.
