Islamabad: (Parliament Times) The president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Masood Ahmed Khan has stressed the need for strengthening Quality Enhance Cells (QECs) to make sure that high quality education was being imparted to students in Universities of Azad Kashmir.
The AJK president said this while chairing a senate meeting of the University of Poonch here on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Senate members including Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasin Zai, Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain, Secretary Education Shahid Mohiudin, HEC representatives and others. Speaking on the occasion Sardar Masood Khan directed the university high-ups to follow the HEC guidelines in letter and spirit to promote higher education in AJK.
He said that besides imparting the education it was incumbent upon teachers to focus on the character building of students so as to make them good citizens. He said that granting degrees to students, was not the sole objective but a comprehensive strategy was needed to get them [students] introduced with modern skills as well as the trending market techniques. “Industrial visits should be arranged for the university students so that they could gain a combined knowledge about both theory and practicalâ€, he said adding that corporate institutions could also be invited to the university to provide students an insight regarding the marketing trends.
Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan said that public sector universities of Azad Kashmir should focus on producing skilled manpower enabling the outgoing students to avail new opportunities of development in Pakistan and AJK. Terming CPEC as a splendid project of progress and prosperity for both Pakistan and Azad Kashmir he said that in order to seek the benefits of this mega project there was dire need that educated youth of the region should get special expertise in the field of hydro electrical engineering, corporate management, logistic as well as in the field of tourism.
The President on the occasion expressed satisfaction over the University management’s efforts of seeking accreditation status for Electrical Engineering, BS veterinary and Animal Sciences, BS Agriculture, BS Eastern Medicine and Surgery. He said that the University’s accreditation in four main academic disciplines was a welcome sign. Khan directed the varsity high-ups to redouble its efforts to seek accreditation for pharmacy degree programs. The president who is also the chancellor of the UOP told the senate meeting that the incumbent government will utilize all available resources to address the issues confronted by the University. He said that tangible steps were being taken for the promotion of high-standard and quality education in the region.
