Islamabad: (Parliament Times) Neil Buhne, the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan praised the efforts of the Azad Government of Jammu and Kashmir on their focused approach to development projects and its active engagement with the UN.
In a letter of thanks addressed to Sardar Masood Khan, President AJK, Mr. Neil congratulated the Azad Government for establishing a strong development agenda and setting of priorities.
Neil Buhne commended the government and people of AJK for their receptive and forthcoming approach to the UN development assistance and partnership program. The UN team met with various departments of the AJK Government to gather feedback on the ongoing projects and to further enhance cooperation for the upcoming UN programming cycle (2018-2022).
The Resident Coordinator especially appreciated the President AJK for his support during the visit and his personal interest in ongoing development projects.
President AJK said that focusing on unemployment, improving basic facilities of health, education and economic condition of the people of Kashmir were the incumbent government’s priority for the coming years. He further said that the challenges and opportunities facing the UN development initiatives in Pakistan must be addressed and avenues to further strengthen the partnership between the government of Pakistan
and UN on key issues such as education, nutrition, employment, disaster-risk reduction, food security, tourism, health have to be explored.
“We will work with the UN on all projects including the Sustainable Development Goals,” the AJK president said. The President assured that Governments of both Pakistan and the AJK will always facilitate and cooperate with the UN in achieving an effective partnership towards development and progression in accomplishing the SDGs
