Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that the Kashmiri people will not tolerate any attempt to damage or harm the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and will oppose tooth and nail any move aimed at changing the demography of the territory.
The forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that any such move would further worsen the situation in the occupied territory and make things from bad to worse. While commenting on the reports about the file regarding 35A going missing, he said, it hardly makes any difference whether the file goes missing or remains at its place, the fact remains that Jammu and Kashmir has a special status by virtue of Article 370 of Indian Constitution and any change in this status is unacceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“New Delhi seems to be hell bent upon changing the Muslim majority character of Jammu and Kashmir and to snatch the rights of the people and now the judicial system of India is being exploited to achieve this objective,†said the spokesman. He said that it was a universally known fact that Jammu and Kashmir was a disputed territory, the fate of which was yet to be decided as there were 18 resolutions pending implementation in the United Nations.
In a reference to Delhi, the spokesman said that under Article 35A, the people of Jammu and Kashmir enjoyed special state subject rights and those trying to scrap it should keep in mind that all the efforts aimed at damaging the special status of the territory would face a stiff resistance.
He said that the people of Kashmir were struggling for a just cause for the past 70 years despite facing hardships and had rendered huge sacrifices and even would not hesitate to give more sacrifices for the protection of their rights.
