Islamabad: Following the disqualification of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in connection with the Panama Papers case verdict by the Supreme Court, the Transparency International UK has demanded the UK authorities to take action against the England-based assets of former premier.
It is to be noted that Nawaz Sharif used offshore companies to purchase assets abroad including four properties in Park Lane, London. The Transparency International UK has urged the British authorities to forthwith start taking action against the four properties of the Sharif family.
These properties are still possessed by the two companies which the Panama Papers revealed to be owned by close relatives of Nawaz Sharif, however, due to lack of transparency over the true owners of offshore companies it is yet to ascertain whether the Sharif family still control these companies or not.
At the London Anti-Corruption Summit in May 2016, the UK pledged to introduce a register of beneficial ownership of foreign companies that would reveal who truly owns the companies buying property in the UK.
