Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed serious concern over the plight of political prisoners lodged in various jails and demanded their immediate release.
The forum spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Scores of Kashmiri prisoners continue to languish in various prisons across India and ironically despite court orders regarding their release, they continue to remain in prisons.
These prisoners, he said, are also being deprived of the basic facilities prescribed in the jail manuals thereby making their lives difficult inside the four walls of prisons at a time when temperatures across India are soaring.
He said that many Hurriyet leaders, including Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Aasiya Andrabi and her aide, Fehmeeda Sofi, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Shakeel Bakhshi and Masarrat Aalam Butt continued to remain in prisons, which was highly condemnable.
“The authorities have crossed all limits of oppression and all the democratic values are being thrown into the dustbin while dealing with the resistance leaders in Kashmir. International rights bodies to take strong note of the condition of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in various jails and to make efforts for their release,†he said.
The spokesman also strongly condemned the brutal use of force by the police and other forces in Islamabad, Pulwama, Dadsara Tral, where innocent protesters were fired with pellets and teargas shells leaving dozens of them injured.
