KARACHI: After his unceremonious expulsion from Pakistan’s Champions Trophy squad, Umar Akmal vented his anger on the local club bowlers with a swashbuckling knock in the 32nd Karachi Gymkhana Omar Associates Ramazan Cricket Festival here on Wednesday.
Playing for Dollar East, Umar lit up the Karachi Gymkhana ground by making 89 to lit his team from 43-3 to 150 all out after skipper Mohammad Sami opted to bat first against hosts Karachi Gymkhana.
Umar’s hurricane 47-ball innings contained seven boundaries and six sixes, while opener Shahid Yousuf was the only other batsman to cross 20. He scored 26 off 21 balls with three boundaries.
Off-spinner Farhan Arif captured three wickets for 24 runs with slow left-armer Khurram Humayun taking 2-19.
Karachi Gymkhana were two down for no runs before limping to 92 all out in the 18th over. Opener Fouz-ul-Hasan top scored with a 29-ball 24 that included two fours and one six.
The slow bowlers were on song for Dollar East. Slow left-armer grabbed 3-10 in four overs while leg-spinner Usman Qadir and off-spinner Jahandad Khan took two wickets each.
Umar Akmal was later declared man-of-the-match.
