KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod for the removal of Inspector General of Police (IGP) A.D. Khawaja, a spokesperson from the chief minister’s office confirmed.
The approval for surrendering the services of the IGP to the federal government came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
The cabinet also approved the appointment of Additional IG Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti as the provincial police chief.
The decisions were made after Auditor General Sindh Barrister Zamir Ghumro briefed the cabinet regarding the ruling of the Sindh High Court on the matter.
Earlier this week, the Sindh High Court had suspended a notification issued by the Sindh government for the removal of the IGP.
The provincial government had sent Khawaja packing after appointing Majeed, a Grade-21 police officer already working in the province.
The SHC had suspended Majeed’s ‘promotion’ as acting IGP, as well.
