MIRPUR: (Parliament Times) Under the spirit to bring about ‘Green Revolution’ through laying the green-belt amidst the dual carriage Mirpur-Mangla Express Way, UK-based International NGO Muslim Hands and Mirpur Development Authority here on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a simple but impressive ceremony hosted at the main office of the Muslim Hand. Director General MDA and Commissioner Mirpur Division Zafar Mahmood Khan and Raja Arslan Nusrat, Program Advisor AJK / Executive Manager Muslim Hands Mirpur signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations. Mangla bridge over the Jhelum river is the entry and exit point as gateway to this part of the liberated territory (AJK) of the Himalayan State of Jammu & Kashmir. Under the terms of reference of the MoU reached between the two institutions, the MDA shall be bound to provide access to the Muslim Hands on main Mirpur-Mangla express way from Mangla Bridge to Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Medical College in Mirpur coupled with the required basic infrastructural facilities including 1800 iron fences, which area already installed on plants that need no further protection and 1000 number of plants. The MDA, under the MoU, shall be responsible for mtaintenance of the project for longer sustainability besides ensuring legal cover of the project side by side dealing with all inter and intra departmental constraints as and when required.
Under the MoU, the Muslim Hands would be bound for ground implementation of the Road of Fame project in letter and spirit, required alteration (cutting and repair) of provided 1800 fences besides assuring the availability of additional 800 number of plants.
Muslim Hands, according to the MoU would also be responsible for preparing the list of dignitaries fir “Road if fame†project. The NGO will also be liable to share the final formulated list with the MDA – besides having the right to ensure its complete visibility along either side of the ‘Road of Fameâ€.
Earlier Syed Ibnul Hassan Gillani of the Muslim Hands, United Kingdom briefed about the series of completed and under-construction social welfare project in civic including horticulture, education and health sectors in Mirpur district as well as in other parts of Azad Jammu & Kashmir to facilitate the common man and need in the area.
The ceremony was attended among others by various senior officials of the MDA and Muslim Hands based in AJK including Director Works Masood Qadri, Deputy Director Horticulture & Planning Mirza Muhammad Kaleem Jaraal, Admin and Finance Officer Mujtaba Haider Naseem Haider, Saad Rafiq, Ch. Tahir Iqbal, Nahjeeb Ahmed Khan, Samad Bukhari and Zeeshan Ehsan and Hassan Shahzad Nawabi, besides eminent icons from diverse segments of the civil society.
It may be added that after the failure of the local state-run water distribution agency – the Public Health Engineering Department during the era of previous management of the PHED, in ensuring adequate supply of required pure hygienic water to the local population, a UK-based NGO – Muslim Hands launched drive for phased installation of the water filtration Plants in various locations of Mirpur city and the areas in its outskirt to facilitate the citizens with the filtered hygienic water with the coordination of the local civic institutions.

The Water Filtration plant were donated by the Muslim Hands United Kingdom in the wake of the ongoing series of the installation of the Water Filtration Plants in this city of over million UK-based expatriates. Muslim Hands have so far installed over eight grand fully-equipped water filtration plants in difference parts of Mirpur city with the coordination of the MDA and Mirpur Municipal Corporation.
