Chenab Nagar: Chairmen Municipal Coporation Chenab Nagar (Rabwa) Lalian Chiniot, Sardar Zada Syed Hassan Abbas has said government failed to provide required funds for municipality since he assumed charged as chairman.
In an interview with Parliament times he said he has been running affairs of the municipality out of his pocket and due to want of the Municipal Committee is totally powerless to resolve the problems the people at grass root level.
Chairmen said provincial government was frequently approached for the release of requisite funds to accelerate the development work but all in vain, leaving us in the lurch. The deficiency of funds is not only hampering the development process at local level but also had left the institution of local government redundant, he added. The chairman said problems being faced by Municipal Corporation can be gauged from the fact that we had to purchase furniture and chairs for the office our own pockets.
Highlighting the problems being face the residents of Municipality, Syed Hassan Abbas said improvement of sewerage system, collection and disposal of garbage and keep the city clean and tidy are some of the biggest problems that cannot be addressed due to non availability of vehicles and machinery. He said that we come up to the expectations of the people until and unless required funds are provided by the government
He pointed out there are rumours that a District Nazim is being provided a vehicle that will cost 5 to 6 million cost whereas we are running from post to pillar for the development funds to resolve most important public problems.
He said approved funds for the addressing the civic problems were returned back by some influential depriving the poor people of the city from their share in development. This pick and choose strategy adopted by some influential in the government will alienate the people and certainly erode their trust on the government, he warned.
He further said entire city is facing problem of clean water, land pollution due to piled up garbage that could spread diseases in the city. People of the city keep visiting with complaints of growing problems in their respective localities and return back disappointed because we have nothing to offer them due to financial problems.
He said that Municipal Corporation also needs to recruit efficient staff to achieve its objectives and goal but that also cannot be done due scarcity of funds. He said the Municipal Corporation critically needs sucker machine drain the marshy water out.
