The National Assembly turned into a mayhem as a fight broke out between lawmakers of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the Parliament’s lobby. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MNA Murad Saeed punched Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Javed Latif on face outside parliament lobby being provoked by his rival’s remarks. Javed Latif had criticized Imran Khan over his statements against foreign players during the parliament session. After both of them came out of the House they exchanged harsh words. Javed Latif asked him to put some sense in his leader. Murad Saeed became furious and punched Javed Latif on the face while alleging that Latif has called them a ‘traitor’. However; the other parliament members standing around intervened and prevented them from escalating the matter. On this, PTI lawmakers, including Murad Saeed, protested and the House was dismissed due to the mayhem. After the assembly session ended, the PTI lawmaker approached Latif in the Parliament lobby and warned him against using abusive language for his party leader.Javed Latif however said he was not hurt by punch but from the heart. He said the PTI member should have been taught about respect to elders as he was like his father. Leader of the Opposition, Syed Khursheed Shah demanded an inquiry into the whole affair. He said there are open grounds for fight but the sanctity of the house must not be violated.Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has constituted six members Parliamentary Committee under the convener ship of Mr. Ghous Bux Mehar MNA to probe the unpleasant incident of scuffle between Mr. Murad Saeed MNA and Mr. Javed Latif MNA happened at outer gate of Parliament House. The Committee will submit report by 16th March, 2017 to the Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. Women Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) condemns the unpleasant incident. This shameful incident reflects the mindset, which readily implicates women in men’s feuds. The secretary of Women Parliamentary Caucus Shaista Pervaiz Malik said this approach towards women needs to be curbed. The WPC calls for a thorough investigation into the matter. This was highly deplorable incident, conveying dismal message about conduct and character of those who are supposed to be role models. The incident was highly condemned by all segments of the society and it gave bad name to democracy. This regrettable episode took another ugly turn when Mr. Lateef attacked Mr. Saeed’s sisters while speaking to the media at the entrance to the parliament house after the broil. This is simply unacceptable. While Mr. Lateef’s obnoxious attack on women members of Mr. Saeed’s family is condemnable in absolute terms, it cannot justify violent physical attacks. Both PMLN and PTI, at the very least should take stern action against their MNAs to set a much-needed precedent. All of them claim to be democrats but majority of them lack tolerance and true spirit of democracy and indulge in untoward behaviour on different occasions. The leadership of political parties should fulfill its responsibilities to ensure discipline inside and outside the party especially in political affairs to avoid any such untoward situation. Speaker National Assembly should take strict action against those who violate the sanctity of Parliament.
