Keep PSL final spirit of national unity alive

M.Z. Rifat
A new golden chapter was written in the history of Pakistan when the final of Pakistan Super League (PSL) between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators cricket teams was played at the Qaddafi Stadium Lahore and the people with their passion and enthusiasm for the game had thronged the venue defeating all fears of terrorism and apprehensions about any unpleasant incident. At the end, Pakistan and cricket as well as people who had come from all over the country in pretty large number had emerged the proud winners. It was surely and certainly a mega sports event which with the blessings of Almighty Allah went off quite peacefully, orderly and successfully. Kudos to the host Chief Minister and all others who made this possible. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had given the green signal to Pakistan Cricket Board and PSL organizers to hold the final in Lahore and this was followed up by Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Army, Rangers, security related agencies, police and others who had gathered to make foolproof security arrangements on a full-scale level keeping in view the importance and significance of the mega event. Close cooperation, coordination, mutual assistance and help of all those involved and concerned with holding of PSL final under direct supervision and direction of the host Punjab Chief Minister had yielded the much needed and desired objectives of holding the all important PSL Final in a peaceful and orderly manner. On top of everything else, spirit of national unity was created which needs to be upheld ,preserved and kept alive as all is not over yet as for as menace of terrorism is concerned. In all fairness, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should have come and given away the trophy to the winning Peshawar Zalmi team skipper Darren Sammy. Extraordinary sports mega importance demanded his presence at the closing ceremony. His presence would have added colours to the mega event which was being held nowhere else but in his own home city Lahore. That would have been quite a befitting closing to the mega event which the cricket enthusiasts out of their passion and enthusiasm have surely made a memorable historical event. Credit for successful and peaceful holding of PSL final goes to the host Chief Minister, all officers and jawans of security and law enforcing agencies and institutions as well PSL organizers and sponsors besides cricket enthusiasts all over Pakistan. The spirit of national unity so created must be kept alive by everyone to defeat militants, extremists and terrorists to eliminate menace of terrorism once for all. Undoubtedly, people through their unity have defeated terrorism as for as holding of PSL Final is concerned. But still lot more needs to be done to counter and eliminate terrorism from the sacred soil of our beloved motherland.
