Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) AJK President Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan has underscored the need for resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of Kashmiri people to ensure peace and stability in the region.
Addressing a news conference here on Friday, he said Kashmiris were offering unprecedented sacrifices for their right to self-determination and Pakistan stood with them for resolving the issue as per their aspirations.
He said peaceful settlement of Kashmir dispute would bring a new era of economic cooperation and prosperity in the region. Unveiling the details of his recent visit to Europe and other countries, Sardar Muhammad Masood Khan said that he had apprised the international community about the deteriorating human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir.
AJK President said that Foreign Affair Committee of European Parliament has summoned the Indian Ambassador and asked him about the human rights violations in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Sardar Masood Khan thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for raising the Kashmir issue at the 13th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, and for his unequivocal message that peaceful settlement of long standing issues like Jammu and Kashmir and alleviating the suffering of the Kashmiri people would greatly help in advancing stability and development in the entire region.
President Masood Khan also said that this message clearly resonated in the ECO’s call for conflict resolution. He said Azad Kashmir shared ECO’s concerns regarding conflicts in the region and supported their call of their early resolution on the basis of international law.
“The unresolved issue of Jammu and Kashmir is hindering full economic potential of the region and is impeding connectivity that could usher in a new era of prosperity and cooperationâ€, he said.
He said that the region of Jammu and Kashmir was a natural corridor between East Asia, South Asia and West Asia. It was, he said, part of ECO’s footprint. He added: “Once the Kashmir dispute is resolved the region would emerge as a connective node for commerce and economic partnerships in the regional neighbourhood. Instead of being a bone of contention, Kashmir will become a symbol of peace co-existence and amity.â€
To a question he said China Pakistan Economic Corridor would be a game changer in the region and would put Pakistan and AJK on the path of progress and prosperity. He said that people of Jammu and Kashmir could become a symbol of friendship, peace and mutual coexistence if they were given opportunity.
The president said our case on Kashmir is based on truth , which was acknowledged by international community by accepting the United Security Council’s resolutions on Kashmir but India has been using deceptive tactics to keep Kashmir under its subjugation, but it never succeed in her ulterior motives. He said we will have adopt a one point strategy by leaving aside all political variances for the success of freedom struggle and sought cooperation of the conscientious people of the society including journalists, lawyers and others.
