APHC flays authorities for callous approach towards detainees

Srinagar : In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference has strongly denounced the puppet administration for its callous approach towards the illegally detained Kashmiris.

The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the claims of pro-India PDP leaders about providing political space to pro-freedom leadership had proved hoax and as soon as they grabbed power they virtually turned the occupied territory into a big jail.

Commenting on the reports about the detainees lodged in different jails, the spokesman said, “About 27,000 criminal cases and 20,000 FIRs were filed against civilians. During people’s uprising in 2016, the authorities arrested 20,000 people while PSA was slapped against 600. More than 450 activists are still languishing in different detention centres and police lockups.”

He pointed out that those bailed out by the courts were not released and on one or the other pretext their detention period was prolonged. “Even those bailed out are rearrested by police and detained on fictitious charges. Tanveer Ahmad Dar of old town Baramulla is a handicapped and moves on crutches. He is languishing in Kupwara jail for the last four months,” he added.

The spokesman expressed serious concern over the continued detention of Bashir Ahmad Qureshi, Sheikh Muhammad Ramzan, Salman Yousuf, Danish Ahmad Malik, Ghulam Qadir Naikoo, Muhammad Shafi Wagey, Muhammad Shafi Khan, Riyaz Ahmad, Ashiq Husain Narchoor, Showkat Ahmad, Khalid Husain, Ghulam Hassan Shah, Abdul Khaliq Regu, Hakim-ur-Rehman, Bashir Ahmad Butt, Ghulam Hussain Malik, Abdul Rasheed Wani, Mufti Abdul Ahad, Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Muhammad Ashraf Malik, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad, Muhammad Ramzan, Muhammad Amin and Farooq Ahmad Shah. He said that administration even did not spare handicapped persons and lodge them in detention centres.

The APHC appealed to the International Committee of Red Cross, Amnesty International and other world human rights organizations to use their influence for immediate release of the Kashmiri detainees.
