Muzaffarabad: (Parliament Times) Terming the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) as most important constitutional body with powers to review to any existing laws in the light of Quran and Sunha, AJK President Sardar Muhamamd Masood Khan said no law can be introduced or enforced which is repugnant to teaching of Islam.
He sated this after being briefed by Secretary CII Javeid ul Hussan Javeid about the structure of the council, it budget and other affairs relating to its functioning. The president was told that Council of Islamic Cardiology was setup in 1978 and has been functioning under department of religious affairs till now. The Chief Justice Azad Jammu and Kashmir is chairman of the council while its members are appointed by President. There are 8 members of the council whose term in office would expire in July 2018. The members of the council get Rs.17000 as honorarium with perks and privileges equal to grad 21 officer. The council has convened its 93 meetings since its inception in 1978. The council meets once in three months and so far reviewed 148 laws and prepared 63 recommendations for the legislature. The president was further told that CII required a separate secretariat and additional budget for publication of its annual reports. The Prime Minister has already approved for purchase of land for construction of its secretariat. The president expressed his satisfaction over the performance of CCI and said that council is doing its best within limited resources. Meanwhile Chairman Ulema and Mashaikh Council Moulana Ubaidullah Farooqi and senior advisor to Prime Minister Sardar Khan Bhadar Khan also called on president talking to them President said that Kashmir is first and foremost priority of AJK government. He said that fifteen innocent Kashmiris have been killed in last month by Indian forces in fake encounters while over three hundred others were wounded.
