DUBAI: Karachi Kings star performer Kieron Pollard said on Saturday that he was putting in all his effort to ensure contact with the deliveries bowled during the tense moments of the match against Lahore Qalandars, which Kings won off the last ball.
In a post-match press conference, Pollard said: “First of all, I was just trying to make contact with the deliveries. You know, to make runs first you have to make contact with the ball,†he said. “I was trying to stay calm on the crease because at the end of the day it was just a cricket match.â€
“If we had lost we would have been knocked out but stress would not have helped us. There are so many things in your life to stress about than taking stress in a cricket match.â€
“Pressure was certainly there but there was no stress.â€
Pollard said that the Karachi Kings squad had a firm chat in the hotel before the game. “We knew we had to come big tonight,†the batsman said.
Pollard smashed two sixes off last two deliveries of the final over to take his team to a 5-wicket win against Lahore Qalandars and keep Karachi Kings alive in the second edition of the Pakistan Super League on Saturday.
Kings needed 14 off the final over and 10 off last two balls as Pollard smashed Aamer Yamin for a six to long-off on the penultimate delivery and then on deep mid-wicket for another sixer to complete the victory for Karachi Kings.
Pollard smashed four sixes and one four to score 45 off just 20 deliveries, Imad Wasim remained not out after scoring 19 off 14.
