“A total of 199 persons were arrested in a total of 41 cases registered under Rented premises Security Ordinance during last two days”, Senior Superintendent of Police Mirpur Raja Irfan Salim told this Correspondent Monday evening.

“The law enforcement agencies including police headed by the DSP city Azhar Iqbal and the officials of sensitive institutions ( intelligence agencies) conducted comprehensive combing operation in various parts of Mirpur city and rest of the district to hunt the illegally-settled non-registered Afghan immigrants as well as those belonging to FATA including North and South Waziristan agencies besides their local facilitators (owners of residential buildings who had rented out their buildings to such unlawful dwellers), the DSP City Raja Azhar Iqbal told APP Monday night.

Elaborating the number of the arrested persons, belonging to Afghanistan, FATA, South and North Waziristan, Swat, Dheer, North Karachi and various other parts of KPK included 79 persons rounded up by Mirpur City police station. Those arrested also included the local owners of residential buildings, who had let their buildings on rent providing shelter to such non-registered Afghan nationals and others, Azhar said.

Cases have been registered under foreign act and other relevant laws of the land including Principal Rental Ordinance against all those arrested including dozens of the local facilitators in Mirpur city and Thothal area police stations and further investigations are in progress, the DSP said.

City police station booked a total of 98 persons including the unlawful Afghan immigrants as well as those belonging to various parts of KPK besides their local facilitators, who had not got them registered with the local police stations being their tenants, according to the City Inspector of Police Muhammad Naseer.

Authorities had received info about the recent influx of the unlawful Afghan immigrants as well as those belonging to FATA in to Mirpur.

Authorities have already banned the entry and presence of the un-registered Afghan nationals including the dubious and unscrupulous elements belonging to FATA and its other adjoining areas in AJK including Mirpur district.

“The search / combing operation would continue to make the entire city and the district clean of illegally-settled Afghan nationals besides others who, reportedly, had not got themselves registered with the local administration / nearest police station”, the sources said.

At the same time, a high level Law and Order Conference held here Monday reviewed the overall peace and order situation including the outcome of the coming operation launched under the National Action Plan in Mirpur Division. The conference was attended by Inspector General of Police Azad Jammu Kashmir Bashir Memon, Mirpur Division Commissioner Sardar Zaffar Mahmood, DIG Police Rashed Naeem, Deputy Commissioners of Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimbher, SSP Mirpur Irfan Salim as well as SPs of Bhimbher and Kotli and other officials of the law enforcement agencies.
