Four terrorist attacks have taken place within 24 hours of the Lahore suicide attack. The death toll from Thursday’s suicide blast inside Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine has climbed to 88 as several critically injured succumbed to their wounds, health officials have confirmed. The suicide bomber entered the compound from the shrine’s Golden Gate and blew himself up amid devotees who were performing Dhamaal. The Islamic State group claimed the attack, the deadliest to hit Pakistan so far in 2017. COAS Bajwa, in a statement, asked the nation to remain calm and exercise restraint. He said the Pakistani military won’t let the enemies succeed in their ulterior designs.Pakistan closed the Torkham border crossing and summoned Afghan Deputy Head of Mission at the army headquarter where army officials handed over a list of most wanted 76 terrorists and asked the Kabul to take action against these militants. Afghan embassy officials were summoned to the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and handed down a list of 76 wanted terrorists to be handed over to Pakistan. The Pakistan army has demanded the terrorists be handed over to them if the Afghan government cannot take action. Following the recent wave of terrorism this week, law enforcement agencies have launched a nationwide security crackdown. Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that the recent terrorist acts are being perpetrated on directions from hostile powers and from sanctuaries in Afghanistan.Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz called Afghan National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar and expressed serious concern that the banned Jamaat-ul-Ahrar continued to launch attacks on Pakistani soil from its sanctuaries and safe havens in Afghanistan. The breakaway faction of the TTP had claimed responsibility for Monday’s Lahore bombing.Aziz told Atmar that the Jamaat-ul-Ahrar was behind these barbaric acts of terrorism, and underlined that the government and people of Pakistan were in deep anguish because of the recent spate of terrorist incidents. The government of Afghanistan, he lamented, had not paid a heed to Pakistan’s repeated calls to take action against the group and its activities. Aziz also said that Pakistan had shared a list of suspected JuA terrorists with the government of Afghanistan for action against them.Aziz stressed that terrorism was a common threat and its elimination required close cooperation. He said it was important that Afghan government take strong action against terrorist elements to reaffirm that its soil was not used for terrorism in Pakistan. The suicide blast inside Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine is very shocking and whole nation is aggrieved on the demise of large number of innocent people in this horrific incident. The latest surge in terror activities has renewed concerns for the security of citizens. Although Operation Zarb-e-Azb has caused a considerable reduction in terrorist activities but the struggle has to continue till its logical end. This new developing trend of terror has put a question mark on the steps of government and its institutions. The coordinated efforts of federal and provincial governments are required to make the struggle against terrorism result oriented. Only lofty claims and condemnation will not work unless practical steps are taken. Afghanistan will have to stop playing into the hands of India and engage into a meaningful and sincere dialogue with Pakistan to bring peace and stability in the region.
