RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa has convened a meeting with Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, Abdullah Marzouk Al zahrani on Friday in General Headquarters (GHQ). During the meeting, COAS General Qamar Bajwa reassured the Saudi ambassador that the Pakistan Army holds the defence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at par with its own.
Issues pertaining to Pakistan-Saudi Arabia bilateral relations including defence and training cooperation remained the focus of the discussion. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the army chief told the envoy that Pakistan considers defence of Saudi Arabia as important as it considers defence of Pakistan. The meeting discussed matters of mutual importance. General Bajwa discussed cooperation between the two states in defence and other sectors. Earlier, former army chief, General (r) Raheel Sharif accepted to lead Saudi prompted 39-country alliance of Muslim countries in war on terror. The ex-COAS accepted Saudi offer after his conditions were met that included him being the supreme leader of the forces, inclusion of Iran and his authority to mediate among countries in case of disagreement. General (r) Sharif s conditions were accepted however, the Pakistani government has maintained mixed statements in the matter so far.
