Islamabad: (Parliament Times) The Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir Amir Abdur Rasheed Turabi has said that United Nations (UN) failure to implement its Security Council resolution on Jammu and Kashmir has been a great tragedy.
While talking to different delegations in Islamabad in connection with 5th January, he said that United Nations Security Council passed a resolution on Kashmir in 1949 granting the self determination right to the people of Kashmir, but unfortunately it failed implement the resolution and hence the world body is directly responsible for the ongoing Indian oppression in occupied Kashmir.
He urged the newly appointed UN Secretary General to compensate the sufferings of the Kashmiri people at the hands of Indian forces by forcing India to end its illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by allowing the people of Kashmir to exercise their free will through plebiscite, pledged to them by the world community.
Abdur Rasheed Turabi said that the people of Kashmir are observing the day when India has let loose a reign of terror on them particularly for the past six months for demanding this legitimate right to self-determination. He said that the dissent, expressed in a peaceful way, was met with brute force and the innocent children were killed, maimed and blinded by those beating the drums of so-called largest democracy in the world ,and all this is happening at a time when the world has become a global village. He said that the United Nations should take notice of what is being unleashed by Indian brute forces on hapless people of Kashmir and take concrete measures to implement its resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The resolution was also signed by Pakistani & Indian representatives thus accepting the importance of Kashmiris’ decision to choose their future
