Islamabad: (Parliament Times) AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan has said government is trying to be electricity self-sufficient in next five years. Chairing a meeting at Kashmir House Islamabad, he said AJK has tremendous potential in hydro power generation which can be  captured to meet the local needs of energy in and increase the revenue of the state. The meeting was attended besides others by, Minister for Works, Chaudhry Muhammad Aziz, Minister Electricity, Raja Nisar ahmed, senior member Board of Revenue, Fiaz Ali Abbasi, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Ahsan Khalid Kiani, Secretary Finance, Malik Sadiq,, secretary Malik Israr Ahmed and officials of power development department. The Prime Minister was briefed that with the completion of 4.8 MW power project in Haveli local needs of power will be meet from the project. The Prime Minister directed Secretary Finance to approve vacancies necessary for running the administrative affairs of the project and acceleration of the pace of development on the project. He also directed for acceleration of development work on other similar projects being executed either in public or private sector. The Prime Minister said AJK has potential to generate electricity not only sufficient for its own need but can supply it to other provinces of Pakistan. He stressed the need of long term planning for micro hydro power projects that can cater local electricity need of the people and to get rid of load shedding. The Prime directed to ensure transparency in bidding process and execution of projects.
