MUZAFFARGARH: (Parliament Times) 18-year-old Saima, who was allegedly kidnapped by a fake faith healer, has been found. The teenage girl was brought in to the conman to be treated for severe headache by her brother Imtiaz.
The fake pir, identified as Abdul Kareem, told the girl’s family members to wait outside while he performed a spiritual ritual. After hours passed, they started to worry and entered the room, only to find it empty; both the girl and the faith healer had disappeared.
As locals took to protest the supposed kidnapping, police responded by arresting two of Kareem’s brothers, and registered a case against the bogus pir. Subsequently, a search was commenced.
With identification from one of the brothers, Saima was found. However, Kareem claims that he has wedded the girl, and submitted official marriage documents.
Saima is now set to be presented in a local court to provide her account of the confusing events.
This is yet another case of ‘faith healer’-related scam, as In October this year, a phony pir professing to be an exorcist killed a young man in Sheikhupura. Authorities revealed that the boy was brutally beaten and electrocuted.
Earlier this year, a similar case surfaced in media, where a girl was tortured by a faith healer, as part of “religious†treatment to improve her chances of getting a good potential suitor. Although the phony pir escaped, he was arrested later.
