KARACHI: (Parliament Times) Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah said on Sunday he is responsible for clearing Karachi of garbage dumps, as he visited different areas of the metropolis and reviewed development work underway.

Speaking to the media, Murad Ali Shah said he takes ownership of the whole of Sindh province and wants development work to be completed before the next election. He said the provincial government has started five development projects in the city.

Asked why he was not accompanied by Karachi mayor Waseem Akhtar during his visit today, Murad Ali Shah admitted it was a mistake not to bring him along. He said he would request the mayor to accompany him in his upcoming visits.

The chief minister said work would also be done in relation to the peace and security situation of Karachi.

Murad Ali Shah said work on water projects would be completed in four months while six big projects, to repair roads in the province, have been started.

He estimated that Karachi’s population is in excess of 20 million but an exact figure would be known once census is conducted. He added that Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has been formed to resolve the garbage dumping problem and pledged support for the local bodies to help in cleanup efforts.
