Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, normal life remained crippled in the Valley for the 123rd consecutive day, as the ongoing freedom uprising completed its four months, today.The present strike also made a record of being second largest one in the world after Palestine. All shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed across the Valley during the period. The shutdown started with the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani in a fake encounter in Kookernag area of Islamabad district on July 8. The authorities imposed curfew for 55 consecutive days to curb anti-India and pro-freedom protests. As many as 112 people have been killed, over 16000 injured and more than 10,000 including Hurriyet leaders, youth and government employees arrested during the last four months. A meeting of the joint resistance leadership comprising the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik is under way with traders, transporters, members of the civil society and educationists at Hyderpora in Srinagar, today. The aim of the meeting is to discuss the future strategy of the resistance movement. While the meeting is going on, people in large number have gathered outside the residence of Syed Ali Gilani and are raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Further details are awaited.Meanwhile, clashes erupted between youth and forces’ personnel in Kareemabad area of Pulwama district after troops cordoned off the village. The youth took to the streets and staged pro-freedom protests.Indian authorities booked a teenage boy. Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir in a statement, today, vehemently denounced the re-arrest of its Spokesman Advocate Zahid Ali by Indian police and termed it an undemocratic act.Following a series of high-level meetings with various paramilitary forces and agencies, Indian Home Ministry prepared a new list of weapons to be procured to quell the protests in occupied Kashmir with more brute force. These weapons include bunker periscopes, ear-deafening acoustic devices and electro-magnetic shock-delivering sticks. The youth took to the streets and staged pro-freedom protests.Indian authorities booked a teenage boy.On the other hand, hundreds of Canadians from all walks of life gathered in Toronto to observe Kashmir Black Day. The speakers on the occasion said that Jammu and Kashmir had never been part of India. Several resolutions passed on the occasion urged India to stop human rights violations in Kashmir, and grant unfettered access to the UN Human Rights Council to make an independent determination of the situation in the territory.
