Muzaffarabad: Srinagar Peace & Justice Forum, Chairman, Tanveer-ul-Islam and President Ad GN Shaheen in a joint statement on Saturday denounced the insensitive behavior with inmates in Baramulla Sub-jail and in an appeal to international bodies for human rights called their cognizance to ascertain factual position of detention centers in Kashmir .They in a statement condemned the highhandedness of jail authorities and said that excesses against detainees tantamount to violation of Geneva convention which guarantees the status of prisoner of war for those striving for freedom for particular region . Atrocities against prisoners come under the purview of human rights violations and against the charter of Geneva Convention, and those jail authorities violating the jail manual are in involved in war crimes, said both leaders. PDP led coalition is not even sparing those lodged in four walls of jail, said Tanveer-ul -Islam and Ad GN Shaheen.
They expressed their concern over beating of elderly and ailing detainees and asked state authorities to stop vengeance against political opponents. It is of grave concern that inmates are denied medical facility and even those inmates injured in police action are denied immediate treatment and thus caused a serious concern among families of detainees. They in a joint statement appealed international Red Cross committee, Amnesty International and UN Human Rightist wing to take cognizance and visit state jails and detention centers for immediate redressal of the grievances of Jail inmates.
They expressed their serious concern over the mysterious burning of educational institutions and said that those burning schools are not friends but acting on behest of some hidden hands and marring future of our young generation.
