Srinagar: In occupied Kashmir, police arrested Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chief Muhammad Yasin Malik and APHC leader Hilal Ahmad War and placed Chairman of Hurriyet forum Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest ahead of a planned sit-in in Srinagar, scheduled to be held today.
The joint resistance leadership has called for the sit-in-cum seminar at Maisuma in Srinagar, today, to highlight the plight of prisoners lodged in various jails.
A JKLF spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “To foil the day-long protest and seminar announced by the resistance leadership, police arrested JKLF chief from his residence.†He was immediately shifted to Central Jail Srinagar. “Muhammad Yasin Malik is unwell for the last few days because of viral infection and has been arrested in ailing condition,†the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest at his Nigeen residence. “Mirwaiz was supposed to take part in the joint sit-in programme,†his spokesman said.
A heavy contingent of police headed by SHO, Police Station, Maisuma cordoned off Maisuma locality immediately after Fajar and arrested the APHC), leader Engineer Hilal Ahmed War from his residence. He has been lodged in Police Station Maisuma. APHC leader Umar Aadil was also arrested by the police.
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Gilani continues to remain under house arrest at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar, while police have also placed APHC leaders Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Muhammad Ashraf Laya and Ayaz Akbar under house arrest.
