MARDAN : Police have held another suspect in Mashal Khan murder case on Sunday taking the toll of arrests to 16.
Amir Muqam, advisor to the Prime Minister, paid a visit to the bereaved family of the slain student and offered his condolences. Duty magistrate has remanded eight suspects in police custody for a day. Four-day remand of another four suspects was earlier granted by an anti-terrorism court.
Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Salahuddin Mehsud visited Mardan and reviewed the progress made by authorities in the murder probe.
Mashal Khan, a mass communication student in Abdul Wali Khan University was tortured and lynched last week on campus for his views held controversial by many in a conservative Pakistani society.

Imran Khan, leader of an opposition party among other politicians condemned the attack on the student while the federally ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was criticised for not condemning the incident.
However, the Prime Minister issued a condemning statement later on.
Chief Justice of Pakistan took suo moto action of the attack on Saturday and ordered IG of KP Police to file a report within 36 hours.
Members of civil society led a protest rally today in Mardan from slain student’s house to a local market.
The university was shut for a week following the incident with most of its campus going empty the same evening on Thursday.
